Low Cost

In conventional automobiles, catalytic converters and electronic equipment such as sensors and computer controls are fitted in an endeavour to reduce emissions. The cost of these items can equal the cost of the engine itself. These components are not required in a Pritchard automotive engine.

Another item which can be as expensive as the engine in modern vehicles is the transmission system, including the latest developments in continually variable automatic transmissions.
A Pritchard engine does not need a transmission system because it can start from rest; it can provide the high torque required for acceleration and hill climbing from a small-displacement engine; it can run backwards; and it can also provide emergency braking. With no need for emissions equipment or for a manual or automatic transmission, a Pritchard power system would be much cheaper to manufacture.

Complex alternatives such as hydrogen and hybrids cannot compete with the Pritchard unit in terms of cost.
